PathFinders Justice Initiative

Miss Black New York Coed is collaborating with PathFinders Justice Initiative via its long-running ‘Hearts of Hope’ Project. The collaborative effort will run now through April 2017 (the 3 year anniversary of #BringBackOurGirls) to address the humanitarian crisis in Nigeria by assisting women and girl survivors of the Boko Haram insurgency.  Most have endured the agony of witnessing their parents, husbands and/or children slaughtered, trafficking, repeated rape, torture, stonings, starvation, disease, forced labor and forced marriages.  Others are pregnant and/or HIV+ and were rescued with only the clothes on their backs. Many are displaced throughout various internally displaced persons (IDP) Camps in Nigeria, including the non-government ICCF Missions Camp located in Benin City, Edo State, which currently hosts 2,000+ IDPs.

With your assistance, we are providing UNFPA style “dignity kits” which contain basic hygiene items. 100% of all proceeds are directed to the Project.

Pathfinders Justice Initiative, Inc.® is a New York 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization (tax ID number 46-5601806) as well as a non-government organization (NGO) registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria (RC No. 70798). All donations are fully tax deductible to the extent permissible by law.  You will receive a U.S. donation receipt via email.

MLK Day Unity Walk

UPDATE Jan. 13: Due to a decision by Cooper4NY, this event has been canceled.

On January 16, 2017, co-organizers Mutiyat Ade-Salu (2016 Miss Black New York Coed) and Charles Cooper (Cooper4NY) will galvanize New York City residents to unify West, Central, and East Harlem for one day.

Beginning at 1pm, registered participants will head from West Harlem to Harlem River Park down 125th Street (also known as Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard) and pass by Adam Clayton Powell Plaza. This walk includes a walk-a-thon and will total 15 blocks in 1 hour.  100% of the proceeds will be given to Harlem's local women's shelters.

Given recent events, this event is important to not only unify the Harlem Community but also to remind a fragmented United States of Dr. King's legacy of unity.

Simply join the walk for unification by going to our main site or  become a registered walk-a-thon participant in support of homeless women.
